Ocean Breezes
by Domain Mistress on Dec.14, 2009, under Art, Happenings, Socialize
As the salt-tinged winter winds blew across Carmel Bay, the atmosphere was cheery inside the dining room of the Sea Harvest at the Crossroads late yesterday afternoon. The gathering celebrated Karen Gelff’s work that evokes the balmy breezes of the Caribbean and Cabo. Vibrant colors, a mixture of textures and patterns in her portrayals of swaying palm trees on long white beaches, singing birds, swimming fish and happy octupi surrounded us.
It was a Dark & Stormy Night…

Well, it wasn’t that stormy but just a little rainy and windy for the Center of Photographic Art opening of the latest exihibit, “Luminosity – the Art of ImageMaking” featuring our august UDS member Bimbi, known in the off-Playa world as Robin Robinson. UDS members turned out to support the creative effort with Ellen, Alan, Chris, Karen, Joel and Lance. Tomorrow night, the tribe will celebrate Karen Gelff’s opening at Sea Harvest at the Crossroads.
Sunset, Full Moon, Firelight
by Domain Mistress on Oct.05, 2009, under Socialize
While the sun sank into the rolling waters to the west and the October full moon rose over the jagged cypress on the east, we spoke of our memories of the Playa. We met new friends and our tales of color, light, sound and imagination has inspired one or two new recruits.
A special thank you to Jerry and those who came early to set up. Without Jerry’s inspiration to build fire, we would not have gathered. The fire was spectacular (especially when the wind picked up around 10 pm.) The fire, the beach, food, drink, conversation and friendship sparked many new ideas for next year. Thank you to Kira and Ellen for sharing these photos.
